The U13 Galaxy Girls played a good game Sunday afternoon. The girls played well, they moved the ball around, created a lot chances to score and most of the game was played on their opponents half. The score at half time was 1 – 0 Galaxy. The 2nd half saw the Galaxy keep up the effort, we were still creating opportunities and they scored their 2nd goal about 10 minutes into the half. The final score was 2 – 1 a solid Galaxy victory.

The U16 Sting girls played two games this weekend.

Game 1 on Saturday was against NJ Rush NPL who is ranked 9th in NJ.The match featured two teams with varying styles. The Sting attempted to build out of the back and into the middle third but was meant with severe resistance from NJ Rush.  NJ Rush played an aggressive 3-5-2 formation for portions of the match and crowded the middle third which negated Sting’s ability to possess and play.  NJ Rush also had extremely fast players up top who got dangerous numerous times on balls over the top. NJCSA defenders and keeper, Brittany, were called upon often to make critical saves. Against the run of play, Natalie Sprengel buried a lefty, half-volley from 18 yards out at the 20 minute mark to put Sting ahead 1-0. In a physical affair, the match had ebbs and flows where each time generated opportunities.  Sting defended well for long stretches of the game until conceding the equalizer off of our own throw in deep in the opponents territory with 10 minutes left in the match. Both teams had opportunities to win the match but it ended in a 1-1 draw.
Players of the Match — Natalie Sprengel (1 goal), Brittany Byrne — GK who was phenomenal, Rachel Bailey — CB who defended hard and clean but who also escaped a potential PK or two.
Game 2 on Sunday featured the Sting vs NJ Rush Blue — 5th ranked team in NJ.
This match was also two evenly competitive teams where either team could have won.
The soccer level was much better on Sunday then Saturday and both teams executed in all facets of the game. NJ Rush Blue rattled the woodwork on two occasions in the first half while Sting generated a few dangerous chances on quality build up into the final third where they were unable to finish. Half was 0-0 with both teams confident they would find a goal and win the match.  Sting were extremely dangerous on five 2nd half corners, and set piece specialist Sam LaBianca, served perfect balls away from the keeper and into the 8-12 yard spot for stellar chances for the games opening goal. However, NJ Rush Blue defended the set pieces fairly well and the contest remained deadlocked at nil nil until NJ Rush executed a quality sequences of passes from the middle third into the final third and tucked one neatly into the corner. Sting threatened but could not find the equalizer and lost 1-0.

The U17 Ajax boys played two matches this weekend , both on the road. On Saturday they traveled up to Morris Plains to take on STA and dropped a tough match. The boys had to turn around on Sunday and play SSC up at Gill St Bernard’s School. Five minutes into the match Gregg Johnson Jr. hit a cracker into the side netting from just inside the box. SSC equalized about 15 minutes  later after their Center Mid struck a laser beam off the crossbar that their forward was able to finish off the rebound. As the first half was winding down Phil Kordunov took a corner kick and Jamie Martin met the service at the near post to head in the eventual game winner. Noah Baker and Adelani “Mo” Odunlami combined to get the victory in goal both making some good saves along the way.
